By using the Math Explorer Calculator we were able to multiply and divide large numbers and learn about ratio, proportion and scale. Our measurement of the bridge span was 262 meters with a trundle wheel. This is about 852 feet. We found out that the bridge is actually 1,080 feet long wo we used this information instead. We set up a proportions. The number 5 stands for our 5 foot long display table. We cross multiplied and then divided to arrive at a scale of 1 foot = 216 feet. We did a lot more math in this lesson too like fractions and rounding to a whole number.
