Architecture in Education

The AIE Eight-Week Program:

Third-grade teacher Mary Ann Kesilman decided to have her students use their AIE Program to create designs for a vacant lot near their McClure School building in North Philadelphia.

AIE assigned volunteer Karla D. Hoffman, a landscape architect from Olin Partnership, and Bryn Mawr "Cities" major students Claire Whitman and Kristin Schade to the classroom for an hour and a half on Wednesday mornings.

Part of their experience included a Field Trip to Hunting Park and the vacant lot. For their final project, they created a model of the surrounding row houses, and students created parks that fit the model's scale.
